“Capturing The Love”
“Dance Partners: Animals and Their People”
A Solo Photography Exhibit by Alice Spears
November 7 – December 30, 2009
Opening Reception
Saturday November 7 5-7pm
Who: Alice Spears was a dancer trained in Balanchine’s School of American Ballet who performed in the Nutcracker Suite as a child before joining Alvin Ailey’s Clarke Center. Dance was her “ultimate form of self expression” at that time before she discovered the personal satisfaction of working as a Physician Assistant originally caring for HIV positive women in New York City then working in Family Practice in Woodstock, NY. Spears is currently employed by St Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie. Additionally, she lives with her partner on a small farm inhabited by horses, dogs, cats, chickens, an African Grey parrot named Annie and a Cockatoo named Radio.
What: These primarily color photographs express movement through the actions and interactions of animals and their people. Spears is motivated by her “deep love for the flora and fauna of this miraculous world of ours”. Her photographs reflect the interactions of people with their animals as well as animals with each other. Spear’s photographs record the fluid emotions and motions of animals as they swim against the surf, run into the wind, or make soulful eye-contact with owners. Though not choreographed the captured balletic movements may remind viewers dancers performing a pas de deux moving across the stage or corps de ballet members awaiting their cue. These photographs reflect Spear’s lifelong interest in movement as a form of self-expression.
When: This exhibit is open to the public November 7 through December 30
Monday – Saturday 9am – 5pm. A reception with the artist will be held Saturday November 7 from 5-7pm.
Where: Montgomery Row Second Level is located on the second floor of Montgomery Row, 6423 Montgomery Street (Rt 9), Rhinebeck north of Upstate Films. There is parking at the building’s north entrance and at the Garden Street entrance.

October 18th Rally
Monday, October 12th, 2009Friends and Neighbors,
As we go around from door to door, we meet you, the people of our town. Some of you are very friendly and engaging, even when you may disagree with us on issues. Some are curt but not rude. And there has been some unpleasant behaviour. But, we appreciate meeting all of you and learning your concerns. We hope to meet more of you next Sunday and invite everyone to the Second Clermont Democrats Rally October 18th from 2 to 4 pm at the Clermont Farm Stand 1820 Rt 9 in the Hamlet. It will be a great time with music, food and fun times for kids. It is all free of charge although we’re always happy for a donation. And the weather report is good for a sunny day!
Hoping to see you there,
The Democratic Candidates:
Ray Staats, Supervisor
Chris Nolan, Town Council
